Join us for the February Public Policy in Practice event as we welcome Joseph Pierce, State Director for US Senator John Fetterman.

Joseph Pierce is a seasoned government relations and political professional with over 15 years of experience. Joseph is currently the State Director for US Senator John Fetterman. Joseph served as the statewide political director for PA Lieutenant Governor John Fetterman’s campaign for US Senate. Previously, he served as director of government relations and advocacy for the Pennsylvania-based nonprofit Mental Health Partnerships. He was campaign manager for City Councilmember At-Large Derek Green’s successful bid for re-election in 2019 and US Senator Bob Casey’s statewide political director during his successful re-election campaign in 2018. Joseph also has a long history of government relations within the labor movement, having stints with both AFSCME and SEIU 32BJ.

Before moving to Philadelphia over a decade ago, Joseph was a staffer in the Florida Senate and worked on a statewide gubernatorial race in the same state. He has a bachelor’s degree in business administration and a master’s degree in public administration, both from his alma mater, Florida A&M University. He is a proud member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated and 100 Black Men. Joseph is a 2016 class member of the Philadelphia Chapter of New Leaders Council, former president of the Philadelphia Chapter of the FAMU National Alumni Association, former recipient of the Billy Penn Who’s Next award and City & State PA’s 40 under 40 recognition, and a committee person in the 5th Ward of Philadelphia. He is happily married to Sherika Pierce.

The Public Policy in Practice Series, led by Fels Distinguished Fellow Elizabeth Vale, is designed to provide students with a variety of perspectives and compelling personal narratives that will help them not only form their opinions on important issues but will also help shape their careers. This series is offered in conjunction with the Fels graduate Public Management course required of all Fels MPA and Executive MPA students. Fels is proud to offer these important conversations to the entire Penn community and members of the public.
