Two Fels MPA students selected as Presidential Management Fellowship (PMF) finalists

Two Fels Master of Public Administration students were selected as Presidential Management Fellowship (PMF) finalists, the US federal government’s prestigious two-year leadership development program for advanced degree candidates. Patrick Gushue (MPA ‘24) and Meg Turner (MPA ‘24) were chosen as part of 825 finalists out of over 7,000 domestic and international applications for the Class of 2024.

Mayor Cherelle Parker to Give Keynote Address at Fels Institute of Government 2024 Graduation

The event will take place on Sunday, May 19, at the National Constitution Center.

Fels welcomes Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg for the Public Policy in Practice speaker series

The Fels Institute of Government was honored to welcome US Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg to the Public Policy in Practice speaker series on Wednesday, March 13, 2024. In a conversation facilitated by Distinguished Fellow Elizabeth Vale, Secretary Buttigieg discussed his broad career in public service and his experience in his current role leading national transportation policy. He shared the impact of working across the aisle, including the development and passage of President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to rebuild the country’s infrastructure.

Heather Huntington

Professor Heather Huntington is the executive director of the Penn Development Research Institute-DevLab. Dr. Huntington has served as the principal investigator on nine evaluation projects over the past five years for USAID, the Millennium Challenge Corporation, and the United States Institute of Peace. The global reach of her work includes transformational projects in Zambia, Ghana, Cote d’Ivoire, Uganda, Burkina Faso, Mozambique, Mongolia, Liberia, Ethiopia, Guinea, and Colombia.

Andrew Buss

Andrew Buss is a Deputy Chief Information Officer within Philadelphia’s Office of Innovation and Technology. He and his team focus on public technology and innovation, with a portfolio including digital equity, public sector innovation ecosystems, digital services, smart cities, creative services, and communications. After directing Philadelphia’s implementation of the KEYSPOT program, a citywide network of 77 community technology centers, he established the City’s first innovation team with a focus on helping public sector employees think and work more creatively.

Obscured “From Words to Weapons: Supporting Survivors of Violence” podcast episode release

On February 16, 2024, Fels hosted a panel discussion on supporting survivors of violence with a live podcast taping of Obscured, a podcast produced by Kouvenda Media. The episode “From Words to Weapons Episode 13: Supporting Survivors of Violence” is now available to stream on the Kouvenda website and all major streaming platforms.

Fels Institute of Government students welcomed David Byerman '95 to the Racial Equity and Social Justice conversation series on Thursday, February 22, 2024. Mr. Byerman is the lead consultant for the Council on Licensure, Enforcement and Regulation (CLEAR) and president of the Byerman Solutions Group.
